On Sunday, November 2nd, at 4pm, at First United Methodist Church in Eugene, Dr. Barbara Baird will present an organ concert commemorating All Saints Day. It will be performed on the 3-manual Hochhalter organ in the acoustically rich space of the large Methodist Church. The program will include familiar hymns and reflective pieces.
People of Western Christianity celebrate All Saints Day, also known as All Hallows, on November 1st. It honors saints around the world, whether known or unknown. It is the day after the feast of All Hallows Evening or Halloween.
This celebration was first organized by Pope Gregory III during 531-541 for the diocese of Rome and was later expanded to the entire church by Pope Gregory IV during 877-844.
