The February chapter program has been rescheduled to February 20 at 3 pm. It will take place in the auditorium of the Christian Science Church in Eugene and will focus on harpsichords, as seen from a builder’s perspective.
Norm Purdy will bring together four harpsichords for the program: a Zuckerman virginal, a Purdy spinet, an Italian Baroque single manual by Purdy, and the two manual AGO Purdy-Zuckerman Flemish. The last instrument being the ugly duckling Norman transformed from a single manual to a two-manual beautiful swan.
The program will include a explanation of the similarities and differences between these instruments, and demonstrations of their tonal characteristics. In addition, photos of the single to dual manual conversion will be shown.
Harpsichordists Suzanne Giordano, Mike Reiter, Barry Anderson, Barbara Baird and Richard Guy will present musical selections on the instruments. There’s still time to sign up to play, if you wish, contact Richard Guy.
The program is open to the public, so bring along your friends. Attendees are invited to try out the various instruments after the formal program.
The program is Sunday afternoon, Feb 20, 3 pm at the Christian Science Church, 14th and Pearl streets in downtown Eugene.
